Incident 1 (In the Polytechnic): Treasury Class on Thursdays start at 8am and ends at 10. Last week, I came in at 8.30am. I went to my seat whilst everyone was doing the tutorial. When the teacher came by to my area this is what went down.
DG: Sorry I'm late
Teacher: Why are you late?
DG: Sorry, I overslept (Also, I was caught in traffic)
Teacher: I said last week not to enter the classroom if you come in after 8.30am.
DG: Is it? But it's just 8.30 now (At this moment, a classmate confirms that it is indeed 8.30 on his watch too).
Teacher: No, it's 8.35am!
DG: OK I'm sorry, I didn't know about this new rule, since I wasn't in class last week.
Teacher: Get out of my class! (She's shouting and in an angry tone).
DG: Why? All I said was I didn't know about your new rule. I'll take note if it.
Teacher: (Repeats again in the same tone!)
For crying out loud, this is tertiary education and not high school. Furthermore, this teacher never even begins her lessons at 8am sharp (Usually 8.15am) and she makes the class do the tutorial for the first hour. How have I missed anything by coming in a tad late? Also, if she had made the rule while the whole class was present and we have a general consensus, than I would imagine that it is fair. Generally, I would consider myself to be nice and friendly and definitely respect everyone around me. But when people around treat you like dirt and don't respect you, I don't take it lightly.
I took a drive to clear my mind and came back to the Poly to have breakfast with Pearl. Felt a lot better after sharing with her about what took place in class over hotcakes at McDonald's! Have more to share about home and Church but I think I'll leave it at this. Feels better again after putting this in words too!
Time to look forward to the Holidays and celebrations to come. I'm pumped up, are you?
